The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended
the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southeastern Avery County in western North Carolina...
Northwestern Burke County in western North Carolina...
West Central Caldwell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 400 AM EDT.

* At 139 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned
area. Between 4 and 6 inches of rain have fallen over the past 12
hours. Steady rises are occurring in area streams including the
Linville River, Wilson Creek, Johns River, Mulberry Creek and
Warrior Fork Creek. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect flash flooding of low-lying areas near streams,
including parks, trails, low-water crossings, boat- access
areas, and campgrounds.  Significant flooding of
poor-drainage areas are likely, impacting travel.
Low-lying roadways are likely to be flooded, requiring
barricades.

Crossnore, Table Rock, B.R. Parkway-Linville Falls To Grandfather,
Linville Falls, B.R. Parkway-Little Switzerland To Linville, Lake
James State Park, Grandfather Mountain State Park, Lake James,
Jonas Ridge and Edgemont.

Wilson Creek at Adako Rd, 3 miles southwest of Colletsville has risen
above flood stage and is still rising. Flooding of low-lying areas
adjacent to Wilson Creek is developing with lesser impacts to
vulnerable property.  More significant floodwaters are beginning to
impact low-lying areas, with inundation approximately 2-4 ft deep.
Low-water crossings may be inundated with up to 2-3 ft of
floodwaters.  Campgrounds, secondary roads, and outbuildings may be
experiencing flooding up to 1-2 ft deep.  Flooding less than 1 ft
deep may begin impacting basements and primary roads.
