FFWCHS The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Charleston County in southeastern South Carolina... * Until 930 AM EDT. * At 636 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, James Island, Johns Island, West Ashley, Downtown Charleston, Fort Sumter, Daniel Island, Folly Beach and Kiawah Island. Very heavy rainfall is pushing onshore around Kiawah Island and Folly Beach, producing hourly rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour. With high tide approaching, the risk for flash flooding will only increase over the next few hours. Intense rainfall will likely make travel hazardous due to water covering roadways across Folly Beach, James Island, Johns Island, West Ashley, and downtown Charleston.
