FFWGSP The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended the * Flash Flood Warning for... Rutherford County in western North Carolina... * Until 645 AM EDT. * At 442 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen, with additional torrential rainfall moving into the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Rapid rises should be expected on area creeks and streams, including along Cleghorn Creek in Rutherfordton, Floyds Creek near Forest City, and Mountain Creek near Green Hill. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Forest City, Rutherfordton, Spindale, Ellenboro, Bostic, South Mountains State Park, Alexander Mills, Sunshine, Union Mills and Caroleen. Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms will develop over the next few hours and the threat will persist through the early morning hours on Sunday. These showers and storms will be very efficient at producing heavy rainfall. Flash flooding is imminent or occurring across the area. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground immediately if heavy rain develops. Please have a plan in place should you experience flash flooding and do not hesitate to act. Please heed all evacuation orders from Emergency Management officials.
